Crochet Pattern Review - My First Amigurumi Bunny

Hello! Welcome to the first blog post of 2021. 2020 was a rough year to say the least. I had to take a “break” after Halloween because there was just too much going on and it took its toil on me, just like many others. While the beginning of 2021 hasn’t been much better (and we’re only 9 days in), I figured that I would stick to my new “schedule”. I put schedule in ““ because I want to see how it goes and if I am able to keep my intended plans. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Anyways, I saw these dolls on Instagram during the early part of last year by @amigurumibyguli and absolutely fell in love with them. I loved them so much that I knew that I actually just wanted to make one for myself, but I also knew they would make a great present for my niece for Christmas. The pattern was available through her Etsy shop which you can find here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/amigurumibyguli. I don’t see it there at the moment , however she does have other patterns up there that are super cute.

Overall the pattern was well put together and even though this is the first amigurumi that I have made, I have been crocheting for many years now, making the pattern to be mostly easy to use. I would definitely use the creator’s other patterns in the future.

The creator of this pattern is in Turkey, therefore overall there were some differences in the names of the colors listed on the pattern versus what the picture showed, however that may have just been an issue with the color of the picture, I don’t know. In the picture the color is yellow, however in the pattern it is listed as green. The same is applicable for the color in the picture being blue or purple but in the pattern it is listed as being grey. Not a big deal, but I had to keep reminding myself of these differences.

Instead of using the yarn suggested in the pattern, I used a Yarn Bee set of yarn which I felt were complimentary and would look good together. I also used the color ivory in the same brand - Yarn Bee for the body of the bunny.

This was the beginning of the hat which is the first step in the pattern:

(Don’t mind my nail polish…I don’t have enough patience to actually site there and wait for it to dry)

Making the head was probably the most satisfying part of the pattern. It was so neat and perfect. I did use 8mm eyes instead of the slightly smaller eyes listed in the pattern.

The most difficult part of the pattern for me was the skirt. The decreasing stitches as the skirt was made created, I’m not sure if bulges is the right word, but it did create a visible mark which made it look a tad bit unflattering. I had to secure the pleats with extra stitches as the extra '“fabric” did not sit flat and evenly against the body once it was secured. I made the extra stitches just with the same yarn and a needle. to make sure they maintained their shape and folds.

The hat as well ended up being too big for the head. I believe the pattern could be modified to make sure that it fits the head. In the pattern the first thing that is made is the hat, I would advise that the head be made first and the hat made after.

I faced some challenges when attaching the ears to the head. To ensure that they were secured to the head properly, I had to add a few extra stitches.

To completed the doll, I added a few stiches with matching yarn to place the hat and scarf securely on the body. My niece is only two, so I wanted to make sure that everything was snug and secure on the doll.

I added the year and her first initial on the bottom of the boots.

And finally, after a very long transit due to the holidays, my niece finally received her bunny. She’s so adorable!! <3
